Kragerup Gods
Fodermesterboligen ENG
On the ground floor of fodermesterboligen lived the head groom, who took care of the cows and pigs. On the first floor lived apprentices and farmhands who worked in agriculture.
8th generation estate owner Birgitte Dinesen recounts: "When I was a child, I witnessed the farmhands climbing in through the windows to visit the young girls. There was always a ladder at the back of the main building that they used when they went to visit the girls. Sometimes it was me who had to stand guard for a coin and promise not to reveal the romantic relationships to my parents. Occasionally to this day, I meet older ladies in the area who tell me they met their husbands at Kragerup."
"Until the 1970s, the farm's farmhands and apprentices lived in the Men's Quarters – also known as the Apprentice Hall. They were provided room and board and ate in forvalterboligen, where I lived as a child. This was also where their common room was, where they played cards, and from the 1960s, they could also watch TV. I had a lot of fun with the farmhands when I was a child. They found it amusing to challenge me and offered me, for example, five kroner to swallow an earthworm or ten kroner to swim across the moat. It amounted to a lot of money, which could be turned into candy at the grocer on Tindinge Bakke. Normally, there was only candy on Saturdays in our family, and chewing gum was forbidden, which is why it became a popular sport to sneak gum from the tractor drivers."
In 2019, the entire first floor was renovated, and 14 new standard double rooms were added. Today, there are also rooms on the ground floor.
