The Baron's Room
Baron Cai Schaffalitzky de Muckadell (1877–1972) was a notable figure in Danish history. Birgitte Dinesen, the 8th generation of the Dinesen family at Kragerup Estate, shares her memories of her great-grandfather:
"Baron Cai Schaffalitzky de Muckadell was my great-grandfather. His daughter, Viveka Schaffalitzky de Muckadell, was my grandmother. Tragically, she passed away during childbirth in 1946 when my father was only 18 years old. I remember my great-grandfather from my childhood and cherish the many fascinating stories he would share."
Cai was a naval officer who served as the executive officer of the Royal Yacht Dannebrog in 1913 and as the head of the submarine fleet until 1919. He had a deep passion for maritime history and authored several books on the subject. Between 1930 and 1960, he published 31 adventure books for boys, which became quite popular. During World War II, he worked as an editor for Berlingske, following his time as a foreign and war correspondent for the newspaper. Baron Cai Schaffalitzky de Muckadell passed away at the age of 94, surviving his daughter by 26 years.
