The Chamberlain's Room
The Chamberlain's Room
Chamberlains Jørgen Eigil Wiffert Dinesen (1895–1963) and Erik Sophus Dinesen (1928–2005) were both prominent members of the Dinesen family. Birgitte Dinesen, 8th generation of the Dinesen family at Kragerup Manor, shares her memories of her father and grandfather:
"This room was originally my father's, Erik Dinesen's, childhood room but was also used by my grandfather, Jørgen Dinesen, in his old age. Both were appointed chamberlains."
"My grandfather Jørgen Dinesen passed away in 1963 when I was five years old. He was chairman of several associations and was deeply involved in political work. Therefore, he was not the one who revolutionized Kragerup, as he had many other interests."
"My father, Erik Dinesen, who was married to my mother, Marie-Louise Dinesen, took over Kragerup in 1960. They implemented significant changes: reconfiguring the park, modernizing the agricultural buildings, and renovating the residences. In 1967, they modernized the main building from a classic manor to a family home that combined the housing concepts of two eras, including a dining kitchen."
"Erik had a great passion for machines, speed, parties, and hunting. His love for cars and speed lasted his entire life, and upon retirement, he most enjoyed having more time for vintage car races, visiting car museums, watching grand prix, or delving into motor literature. My father's great interest in everything with wheels played a crucial role in Kragerup's development. When he took over in 1960, there was only one tractor. He quickly acquired many more as he modernized our farming. My father died of a stroke in 2005 at the age of 77."
