Kragerup Gods
Jens Kraft Jacob Sophus Dinesen ENG
Jens Kraft Jacob Sophus Dinesen (1830-1910) was born on March 18, 1830, at Kragerup Estate. He inherited the estate from his mother, Sophie Jacobine de Neergaard (1810-1857), on January 19, 1857. In 1859, he was appointed Master of the Hunt, and on June 3, 1908, he was named Chamberlain. Jens was known for his immense wealth, often reputed to be the richest man in the country. He led a modest and frugal life, preferring to focus on his own properties rather than mingling with other estates or public life. Jens invested his time in improving his estates, enhancing and renovating the farm buildings at Rugskov, restoring Finderup Church, and planting significant amounts of forest.
Jens spent his entire life at Kragerup Estate and held a dominant influence over the local population. Besides Kragerup, he owned half of Rungstedgaard, Rungstedlund, Folehavegaard, and the summer estate Sømandshvile, which he acquired through his marriage to his cousin, Alvilde Dinesen (1841-1893), the widow of his brother Johan Ulrik Peter Vilhelm Dinesen.
In 1892, the farm buildings constructed by Sophie Jacobine de Neergaard in 1843 burned down, leading Jens to erect new farm buildings that significantly improved the property. In 1890, Jens purchased the Gl. Wiffertsholm Estate and, in 1904, acquired the Skjørringe Estate for his stepson Axel Wilhelm Dinesen (1865-1932). Jens lived with Axel at Skjørringe until his death in 1910.
