Adolph Vilhelm Dinesen ENG

Adolph Vilhelm Dinesen (1807-1876) was born on December 27, 1807, at Kragerup Estate. It was decided early on, at the age of 10, that he would join the military. Adolph achieved various ranks, including sergeant, second lieutenant, knight, and first lieutenant. He voluntarily served in the French army in Africa and was awarded the Knight's Cross. Upon returning home, he purchased Katholm Estate in 1839, where he lived and managed excellently. He only left the estate for trips abroad.

Adolph also participated in the battles at Bov and Isted and Battery, where he proved to be a cunning and energetic leader. He managed to deceive the enemy into believing reinforcements were arriving, causing them to flee. This clever tactic earned the Battery the name "Dinesen" in his honor. In 1852, Adolph retired from military service with the rank of Major. In 1855, he purchased the main estate Stensmark, and in 1858, he was appointed Chamberlain.

In 1840, Adolph married Dagmar Alvilde von Haffner (1818-1874), with whom he had eight children, two of whom joined the military, including daughter Alvilde Dinesen. He was also the grandfather of the famous writer Karen Blixen. Adolph passed away on July 10, 1876, at Katholm Estate and is buried at Ålsø Churchyard.
