Kragerup Gods
Alvilde Dinesen ENG
Alvilde Dinesen (1841-1893) was born on July 12, 1841, at Katholm Estate, the daughter of Adolph Vilhelm Dinesen (1807-1876) and Dagmar Alvilde von Haffner (1818-1874). Alvilde was the aunt of the renowned writer Karen Blixen. She owned Rungstedgaard, Rungstedlund, and Folehave estates, bringing them into her first marriage.
In 1863, she married her cousin, Johan Ulrik Peter Wilhelm Dinesen (1832-1874), who was an officer. Johan passed away in 1874, just 11 years into their marriage. In 1880, she remarried, this time to Johan's brother, Jens Kraft Jacob Sophus Dinesen (1830-1910), who adopted the couple's four children. Alvilde and Johan also had a son, Wentzel Marius Dinesen (1869-1881), who tragically died at the age of 12.
Marriages between cousins and the remarriage of widows were not uncommon in the late 19th century. These practices often helped maintain family estates and social status. Despite her noble background, Alvilde would have had little social standing as a single woman. By marrying Jens Kraft, she maintained her position in society.
Alvilde passed away on September 18, 1893, at Rungstedgaard.
