Kragerup Gods
The Main Building
The painting from 1867 has a humorous little story attached to it. Birgitte Dinesen, the 8th generation of the Dinesen family at Kragerup Estate, shares:
"If you look closely at the picture, you can see a man urinating. Since there were no toilets as we have today, it was easier for the steward to walk around the building and relieve himself. The steward was often outside while the artist was painting, so in the end, the artist decided to include him in the painting!"
"Below the main building, you can see an outbuilding with a thatched roof. Around 1892, all the outbuildings, which were located very close to the main building, burned down. Today, all the outbuildings are situated on the other side of the road and are now used for machinery instead of horses. It's amusing to see how the outbuildings looked in 1867 compared to today."
