Kragerup Go High Climbing Park

Birgitte Dinesen, the 8th generation of the Dinesen family at Kragerup Estate, shares the story of Kragerup Go High - Denmark's first climbing park:

"Kragerup's biggest attraction, the Kragerup Go High climbing park, was built in 2009. The idea for this challenging and fun treetop adventure came to Birgitte Dinesen and Olav Ditlevsen during a farming tour in England. They met a girl working at the English climbing park, Go Ape, in a pub."

"Shortly after, Olav and Birgitte returned to England and visited the Go Ape park in Thetford. Enthusiastically swinging through the air, they agreed that it was 'the best idea ever; we need one of these too'."

"At Kragerup, the distance from idea to action is never long. The challenge was that there were no climbing parks in Denmark, Norway, or Sweden - nor anyone who knew how to build one. Long story short, they contacted Michel, a Frenchman from the French climbing park company Amazone Adventure."

"Soon, six Frenchmen moved into Kragerup Estate. They climbed up to 28 meters high and worked long days. In just 10 weeks, the first three courses were built."

"Before starting the practical work, each tree was 'consulted' and 'asked' if it wanted to be involved. Michel believed that all the climbing parks he built should be designed individually, so only a few trees were cut down. In September 2009, Denmark's first climbing park, Kragerup Go High, was ready to welcome guests with three courses, and visitors were thrilled."

"Since then, the park has expanded to nine courses of varying difficulty levels. The longest zip line stretches 416 meters, offering views over the Great Belt on clear days. The courses collectively span over 6 km."

"You don't need to be an athlete to be challenged in balance, concentration, and endurance. Everyone can join in: kids, women, softies, and real men. It's a fun challenge. Each course takes about an hour, and takes you from the forest floor up to 28 meters high."
